Worldstudio AIGA Scholarships – jury
Judging for the 21st annual Worldstudio AIGA Scholarship Program took place at the School of Visual Arts. This year the jury awarded $51,000 to twenty-one students from colleges and universities across the country.

School of Visual Arts Impact! - programs
The sixth summer session of Impact! Design for Social Change at the School of Visual Arts. Mark Randall, Worldstudio principal, is the chair of the program.

MAKINGOODESIGN – event and award
Worldstudio’s initiative Design Ignites Change received an AIANY MAKINGOODESIGN Award which celebrates New York City innovators using design for social good. Worldstudio is thrilled to be among the other prestigious 2015 honorees; Center for Urban Pedagogy, Design Trust For Public Space, The Alpha Workshops, and No Longer Empty.

James Beard Awards – event and award
Worldstudio co-founder David Sterling’s epic, six-and-a-half pound, 576 page book, Yucatán: Recipes from a Culinary Expedition won two prestigious James Beard awards; Best International Cookbook and Cookbook of the Year. Worldstudio principal, Mark Randall traveled with David on his research expeditions as team photographer to contribute photographs to Yucatán.

Mapping Impact – panel
Design Ignites Change and the School of Visual Arts presented a panel to explore and discuss what designers can learn from how other fields measure the impact of socially driven projects and programs. Panelists include; Sasha Dichter, Chief Innovation Officer at Acumen, Chelsea Mauldin, Executive Director of Public Policy Lab and Rachel Dannefer, NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

Pro-bono week – panel
How do you balance client work with pro bono offerings? Mark Randall, principal of Worldstudio was joined by Kristina Drury, founder and creative director of TYTHEdesign; David Frisco, principal of DFD: David Frisco Design and Chelsea Mauldin, director of the Public Policy Lab for a lively discussion about pro bono design services moderated by Adrienne Schmoeker of Catchafire. This event was hosted by desigNYC as part of Pro Bono Week.

Issues in Civic Visioning – symposium
Worldstudio principal Mark Randall, along with Kris Goddard from the NYC Department of Small Business Services, participated in a panel discussion moderated by David Burney, Pratt Institute. The topic, Community Engagement = Good Communications, is part of the symposium, Issues in Civic Visioning. The event was hosted by the NYC Department of Design and Construction and Town+Gown in collaboration with the AIANY/Center for Architecture and the AIANY/Public Architecture Committee.

Better World by Design – panel
Design Ignites Change Program Director Ansley Whipple, lead a panel discussion on impact measurement at the Better World By Design conference. This annual event is hosted by the Rhode Island School of Design and Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.

Sappi Ideas That Matter – judging
Mark Randall was a judge for the Sappi Ideas That Matter Program in Boston. Grants totaling $250,000 were given to implement a designer’s pro-bono project for a non-profit organization.

School of Visual Arts Impact! – programs
The fifth summer session of Impact! Design for Social Change at the School of Visual Arts. Mark is the Chair of Impact!. In addition to the six-week program, a new one-week program was launched.

Leveraging Good Design to Build a Strong Brand – workshop
Mark Randall lead a workshop; Leveraging Good Design to Build a Strong Brand which focused on how a well-designed brand identity contributes to the success of a nonprofit or social venture. The session, for the Makers Institute, took place at the Centre for Social Innovation in New York.

SUNY The College at Old Westbury – lecture
Mark spoke at SUNY The College at Old Westbury in their Visiting Artists program. The school, located 20 miles outside of New York, is one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country with a mission tied to social justice.

AIGA Centennial Gala – event co-chair
Mark Randall of Worldstudio and David Gibson of Two Twelve were the co-chairs of the AIGA Centennial Gala held at the Grand Hyatt New York. The AIGA Gala is an annual celebration to honor the distinguished practitioners, educators and role models whose creativity, intelligence, perception and skill have inspired and shaped the entire design profession.

AIGA Conference – lecture
Mark Randall spoke on a panel at AIGA’s Head Heart Hand Conference in Minneapolis. The panel, Effecting Social Change Through Design: A State of the Union was moderated by Doug Powell, IBM and included Dawn Hancock, Firebelly Design; Mike Weikert, Center for Social Design, Maryland Institute College of Art and Casey Caplowe, GOOD Magazine.

Worldstudio AIGA Scholarships – judging
Judging for the 2013/2014 Worldstudio | AIGA Scholarships took place in New York City. A total of $38,500 was awarded to 18 students studying art and designs at colleges and universities across the country.

Impact! Sessions – webinar series
Worldstudio launched Impact! Sessions a webinar series on social design in collaboration with the School of Visual Arts. The six sessions in the series, hosted by Mark Randall, were broadcast on alternating Fridays in March and April.

Seán Curran Company – opening night
Opening night of Seán Curran Company’s 15th Anniversary season at the Joyce Theater in New York. Mark Randall designed projected titles for “Fireweather or the Mission of Virgil” a dance piece by choreographer Seán Curran with music by contemporary composer Charles Wuorinen, inspired by Dante’s “Inferno.”

Design Rebels Unite – symposium
Mark was on a panel for the Design Rebels Unite Symposium and book launch for The Design Activist’s Handbook in New York City. The panel included authors Michelle Taute and Noah Scalin, Another Limited Rebellion along with Sheri Koetting, mslk and Daniel Schutzsmith, Mark & Phil. Mark, Sherri and Daniel are featured in the book.

November 9, 2012
Seán Curran Company – world premiere
World premiere of “Travel Songs” at the Debartolo Performing Arts Center at the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana. Mark designed projections for “Travel Songs” an evening length work created by choreographer Seán Curran and the Seán Curran Company in collaboration with the Grammy Award winning acapella group The King’s Singers.

Improves Quality of Urban Life – panel
Mark Randall was included on the “Improves Quality of Urban Life” panel for Design: Just What the Heck Is It? event at the Center for Architecture in New York City in collaboration with the AIANY and presented in association with Archtober, Architecture and Design Month, New York City.
